About the Journaling Club

How the Journaling Club came to be is quite the story as much as it is the journey. A lot has changed and improved throughout the time of its existence, and we love every second of it! The link here will take you the story in detail, but to shorten the story, the Journaling Club came as an impulsive decision to gather a bunch of likeminded people in the name of journaling and seeking ourselves through the art of written language. Before, it was just ideas for progress popping up from thin air, and…well, it’s still sorta like that, but there’s more planning involved. The journaling club is a home for anyone and everyone, it’s where we write about our day, do our shadow work, engage with ourselves on intimate levels, and be there for one another. You’d be amazed at how well and fast you can connect with people when you’re in a group like this. And for those more reticent types of people, there’s still a space for you as well! It’s the Journaling Club Newsletter! Follow the proceeding buttons to the destination you’d like to read about and maybe sign up for the Journaling Club, the Newsletter or both!
How to Join the Journaling Club

The Journaling Club is an interactive engagement group where the members participating all come together to participate in a live zoom meeting, as well as join in on the conversations in group chats on both Slack and through Twitter DM’s. Journaling Club members must sign up with their preferred name, pronouns (if applicable), their email and their twitter handle (if applicable). This information is used to remember each member and to invite them to the Slack App’s Journaling Club Chat where each member will engage in conversation, participate in discussions and see recaps of the previous journaling club meeting.
Email Usage
Emails are highly important here in the journaling club, as certain admins prefer emails over Twitter over Slack for the best formal communication. Updates are sent out and so are Wellness checks, usually though email. The email you sign up with is going to the email put into a contact for the Journaling club as well as how you get your invite to Slack. So it’s really important that you utilize your emails and that you keep mindful of it!
Updates, wellness checks and email journaling prompts are sent through the email you provide!
Meetings
The Journaling Club typically meets for live zoom meetings on a Bi-weekly schedule unless stated otherwise. Each meeting roughly lasts between 1-2 hours or less. Each meeting is recorded, and put into the Slack’s chat room titled ‘Recaps’ so that it is accessible for each member to watch and catch up on the previous meeting. Meeting times and dates are decided by majority rule. Typically, a Google Form is sent out via email, in Slack & in the Twitter Group chat for each member to add their input on which day of the week the meeting should be on and which time would fit best. Whichever choices have majority rule is what we go with for our next meeting. There is also a How-To Navigate Slack Guide within Slack. The file can be shared individually with you by request!
Admins
There are currently 3 hosts for the journaling club, meaning 3 admins! Brenda, Taylor and Aerianna (also known as Happi)! It would be important to get to know each admin and for admins to get to know members, and for everyone to get acquainted as the journaling club does prioritize community!
Leaving the Club
Most of the time when a member leaves the group unannounced, an admin will message that person and see if they’re okay, if anything happened like bullying from another member or any sort. It is heavily recommended that if you do want or need to leave the group that you communicate to an admin so that they can help you sort out your problem, or to properly remove your information from the sign-up and from the email contacts so you no longer receive messages. We don’t like when people leave, but we respect your space!
Summary
The Journaling Club is an interactive engagement group used to connect likeminded individuals on the basis of mental and emotional wellness, opening ourselves up to our own intimacy and to further connect with other writers regardless of genre or level. The sign-up process for the journaling club includes providing your preferred name, pronouns, email and social media handles. Your email will be heavily in use to send updates, wellness checks & journaling prompts too, as well as be your key access to entering the groupchat on Slack. If a member has to part ways with the group, all is understood and we hope the best for you! Just please let us know so we can properly remove your information!
